SELF EMPLOYED:
In the SELF EMPLOYED section, under “Allowable Business Expenses” there’s a “Savings Alert” by the “Rent and other property costs” box. You can tap to select which way you want to claim for use of home. The simplest method is offered first, then the next option. If you say Yes to one of these options ZapTax calculates the right amount and enters it for you. If you say No to those, you can enter your business portion of expenses which you’ve calculated yourself from your household bills into the box. The help text gives guidance to help you know which option is best in your circumstances.
EMPLOYED:
If you are contractually required by your employer to work from home you can claim up to £4 per week towards your expenses without additional documentary evidence. You need to enter the total amount you wish to claim in the “Other Expenses and capital allowances” box in the Employment Expenses part of the EMPLOYMENT section. You can also add to this total the cost of any tools or specialist equipment you have purchased specifically for your employment, including items like office equipment (as long as these have not been reimbursed by your employer).
